Our day...because there's just no way to catch up!

I'm going to try & keep up but I know I can catch up the past few months so I'll start with today!

Last day of school before Christmas break, HALLELUJAH!!! I think I was more excited than the girls, I love having them home, not having to rush out the door, not having to tell them to hurry up & eat their breakfast 12x...we had snowman pancakes complete with bacon scarves to celebrate this morning. Dropped off big kids, hung out with Haley at her Christmas party, lunch, baked cookies for neighbors, was 1st in car line to pick up the girls...should have been a spectacular afternoon.

Got the girls, headed to a lab because Harper needed a blood draw. She's had some unexplained nasty bruises, a few nosebleeds & the ped wants to check for bleeding/clotting disorders. Harper has been worried about this all week because she's so squeamish, when we got there she was so nervous like I didn't know if I was going to get her in the door. The super nice tech puts the tourniquet on and Harper is freaking out, kept trying to rip it off so the lady told me she needed to sit on my lap so I could hold her down. Harper is freakishly strong, she's yelling and gets so upset that she throws up ALL over me, my coat, my pants, my boots, down in my boots, her shirt, her pants, her boots. Keep in mind she had just come from her school Christmas party where she probably ate everything in sight. During the freakout and vomiting, Lily had started sobbing because she's sensitive and gets upset when anyone she loves is hurt or upset.

This lab had nothing but those cheap paper napkins you use to dry your hands in the bathroom, not so good for cleaning up vomit. Of course we have to walk back out to the waiting room to a room full of staring strangers with vomit all over us. Harper of course is totally fine by now because they're done with the blood draw, Lily's still crying and we head home to clean up the disaster.

And in true Harper form, I get the giant pile of stuff to start rinsing it all and she yells from the shower, "Make sure you get all the throw up out of my jingle bell necklace" Yep, Harper that's totally my first priority.

Day 1 The Trip

After the big anticlimactic surprise of telling the girls we were going on a family trip, I mean Lacy's reaction was priceless..."So, was that what the money was for?" because she saw Jason get out cash at the bank the previous weekend. We did get, "You're joking, right?" from Lily.

Packed up the girls backpacks, our 6 suitcases plus carryon luggage + a stroller which we ended up losing before we even got to the ship and we were off! For some reason, I was just excited about even going through the airport with them, seeing them on their first flight and just taking a break from our everyday. We quickly adopted a single file line strategy with Jason as the leader and I was the caboose. We must have said, "Single file line, keep walking, you have to keep walking, Mommy's the caboose, you have to keep walking" Escalators and moving sidewalks provided ample opportunity to say, "YOU HAVE TO KEEP WALKING" because they would stop and back up the whole line behind them.

The flight down was ROUGH, even for Jason who is our seasoned traveler. Everyone except Haley who was happy as a clam felt like we were going to be sick and Jason knew when Lacy didn't want to play minecraft her very favorite game on the Ipad, it was time to grab the barf bag. We then got ready with the other bags but didn't need them, we did grab them for rental car just in case.

Haley's favorite part of the day was the rental car because she got to be in a booster, not a big car seat. Biggest smile she had all day! All Lily could talk about was going to the beach. Lacy was super interested in the bird inside the airport while we waited for our rental car. Harper was probably loudly singing some song she made up.

After a very long travel day, we made it to our hotel which was the perfect 2 bedroom suite for our family. Ate a fancy dinner at Burger King and chilled until bedtime...another surprise awaited the girls in the morning!
Jason's sign he left on his office

I'm not a fan of screen time...except on airplanes
 Must be watching Harry Potter
 Quiet Harper
Tiny part of our luggage haul
Waiting for Jason to park the car & of course we needed snacks during that 15 minutes
Waiting for Daddy, Lacy got really nervous like we were going to leave him behind or miss the plane
 My world with their luggage
Lily getting nervous on take off
Mom, they have palm trees IN THE AIRPORT!

Preschool Drop Out

Haley is officially a preschool drop out & I couldn't be happier about it! I'm amazed at the weird looks that say "Why on earth would you pull your 3 year old out of preschool, she'll probably never get into Harvard?" Seriously people, she's 3!  I had very mixed feelings about her going to preschool this year, most of them were MY feelings about sending my youngest off to "school" two mornings a week. I love her, I love being with her and I wasn't ready.  I thought keeping her home this year would be selfish since she acted like she really wanted to go. She didn't cry when I dropped her off, seemed to like it but I did notice some mornings she & Harper would say, " Who has to go to school today? We want to stay home" and then one morning Haley says, " I need a break. School gives me a headache"...yes, it was just Haley being Haley but I think it was God nudging me a little. Prayed about it & when Jason got home, I said, "Please don't think I'm a crazy Mom but I want to pull Haley out of preschool" He didn't think I was crazy mom and now she's a drop out. We now have a few days a week when we can just stay home or do something fun on our schedule. Can I keep the outside world from eating into our family time forever? No, but I can certainly try to carve out as much time for us as I can while I can.

Many of my mom friends dread school breaks & the summer, I'm not that Mom. I crave uninterrupted, unscheduled time without the rushing around that school brings. I'm not supermom, they drive me crazy sometimes, I want to run away sometimes, sometimes I just can't answer one more question without thinking my head will explode but they're still my favorite people to be around.

Long overdue picture round up!

Lily & Lacy back to school haircuts. We have major haircut remorse about Lily's.
Very unpolitically correct picture. We saw some Muslim women with their headcoverings out one day, I explained it & then a few days later....
Proof Haley can sleep ANYWHERE, in the middle of the day @ our community pool while kneeling on the concrete.
Silly Lacy @ Back to school picnic
First day of 2nd & 3rd grade...please let me figure out a way to stop time.
Haley Mae on open house day
Our prayer board...Eli & Elliot are now a lower priority than the twin pandas at the zoo
Look out world, I'm starting preschool
Harper, "get in the car already. I get Mommy to myself for 2 hours. Do you know how many questions I can ask in two whole hours?"
Harper spilled yogurt on her first outfit of the day, had to quickly change and was very, very mad because she "doesn't like this outfit AT ALL!"
Halloween shopping at Goodwill, Lacy spots this jacket and says, "Mommy, we have to get this for Grandpa, he would LOVE it!" I have no idea why she thinks this.
First fall like day means leggings and cute boots at our house!

Because sometimes you just want your Mom to take a picture of your belly & send it to Daddy
May not know it from the picture but Harper is Daphne from Scooby doo and big ol baby is Fred. Yeah, makes sense since Harper is Scooby
 Fun @ Walmart
The girls have been taking turns planning a meal & then helping me cook...Lacy's dessert was apple pie

Back to Blogging

I've had BLOG on  my to do list every week for months...it hasn't happened until now though. Most of it was just other things took priority but then some of it was I just didn't feel like it. The last several months have been much about waiting. Waiting to hear if we were going to get a new job, waiting to hear if we're going to move, waiting to hear if we're going to get a different job, deciding if that job was right, etc.. I'm not good at waiting, sometimes I feel like I've been waiting since we moved here.

So, I'm doing my best to not just put BLOG on the list but to actually try my best to keep up...here's some funnies from the past few months or so.

Discussed the sinking of the titanic at dinner yesterday which was much a much improved conversation topic because at breakfast we discussed where throw up comes from. Yeah.
Lily was telling us that "like 2000 people died"
Harper, "Yeah, all those people got up ate up by the sharks"
Lacy, "Harper, the didn't get eaten up by sharks. They died because the water was so cold and they got a really bad brainfreeze"

Lily had a new friend at school, new to the district this year. She talks about her non stop so because I'm a nosy Mom and need to see who my kid is hanging out with we invited her over.
Me, "Where did _____ move from?"
Lily, " Mexico"
Me, "Really, are you sure?"
Lily, "Yeah, you know that river between America and Mexico? She swam over it"
Me, "Really, are you sure?"
Lily, "Yeah, seriously Mom"
Me, Whats ______ last name?"
Lily, "Ummmm...I think it's Mi Amigo or something like that"

Harper & Haley wanted to know what would happen if you try to paint a lions nails? What about a fox's nails?

Haley says, "I like zebras. They don't hit people. They just like to snuggle with people" I asked when she had snuggled with a zebra and she yells, "OH YES, AT THE ZOO?"

Haley confiscated Lacy's sparkly purse one morning, after Lacy left for school. She had it on and was ready to go to school. I asked her, "Isn't that Lacy's purse?"  Haley says, "Not anymore. She wasn't taking good care of it so I took it. Isn't it just so pretty?"

Haley walks in the bathroom the other day while I'm changing and yells, "WOW, YOU LOOK JUST LIKE A COW" Great for a mother of 4's self esteem!

Caught Harper telling Haley, "we can go potty at the same time. Just put your booty right here on the potty next to mine" I shut that idea down pretty quick.

Harper & I were on our way to pick up Haley from her first day of preschool, I asked Harper "Did you miss your buddy this morning?"  Her answer, "No I liked it"

Harper got two free meal coupons to Rain Forest Café from her school, she said, "I guess just me & Daddy get to go. Too bad for everybody else"

Haley is an Ariel the mermaid addict so of course I got her a sparkly Ariel mermaid backpack for preschool. First thing she did was unzip it, sticks her head in and says, "it even smells like Ariel!!

Grade school notes

Harper's slumber party. The big girls wanted the little ones to spend the night in their room. Probably so they could play with Harper's new toys but anyway, the next morning, Lily says, "They are never ever spending the night again, Harper asks too many questions and Haley plays with toys all night"
We brought back buckets of acorns from Mammy & Pappy's house and have been feeding one very happy squirrel we've named Squeaky. Lily & Lacy decided to "observe" Squeaky one afternoon. My favorite is that Lily noted, "eats without manners"!!
This is a Halloween card from Lily's friend Andrew...we then had a discussion about making sure we're FRIENDS. Uggghhh...I dread them getting older.
Jason & Haley during the marathon Santa list making...pretty sure Jason had a hand cramp after the last one.
Lacy's Note, "Dear Mommy and Daddy, I'm sorry if I laugh at you or don't listen to you. P.S. And God" I then asked Lacy if she laughs at us alot. She answered, "Not you, just Daddy. Like when he fell in that hole last winter"
Lily has to write sentences with her spelling words each week. Here's some gems from this week, "When I am sick, I complain alot all day long" Truer words have never been spoken! and "My dad is underpaid at his job" Amen, sister!
Lily made this cartoon for Lacy when her eye was hurting, it is titled "Get well Best sisters"
Serious Jib Jab video making on a crazy Friday night

Harperisms Last week

Harper had a big week last week...turned 4, hung out with Aunt Cheryl for a few days, wondered why she didn't have balls, called me bossy and shoplifted for the first time.

Here's the breakdown:
The balls...
"Where are my balls?"
Me, "WHAT?"
"Why don't I have balls like you?"
Me, "WHAT?" while racking my brain where on earth Harper learned about balls
Me, "What balls are you talking about?"
"You know, the balls on your belly"
Me, "Can you show me the balls on my belly?"
"Right there" while poking my boob AKA the balls on my belly.

We have welcomed Snowflake the Elf into our home for the Christmas season, she "watches" over the girls during the Christmas season to report back to Santa. She was perched on the kitchen light fixture the other morning watching over us during breakfast. I told the girls maybe she was in the kitchen to watch me since that's where I hang out most of the time.
Me, "What do you think Mommy does that Snowflake could report back to Santa? What does Mommy do that's naughty?"
Lacy, "You don't do anything naughty Mommy" LOVE HER
Harper, "You boss us around all the time"
I then felt the need to defend myself and my parenting to my 4 year old, going into detail how it's not bossiness but parenting, teaching right vs. wrong,etc....pretty sure I lost her after the first 20 seconds.

Harper is the latest Newton girl to disgrace our family by shoplifting. Browsing around Old Navy with the little girls, Harper found a very ugly crystal feather bracelet that caught her eye. She asked if she could wear it in the store, told her No and moved onto the rest of the store. Apparently, the bracelet went along with us in a pocket or something. We got home and a short while later, there was the hideous bracelet on the floor. She denied it at first when I started to interrogate her. I sent her to the corner until she was ready to tell the truth. Sooo....
"I'm ready to tell the truth"
Me, "Harper did you take this bracelet"
Harper staring back at me, mute.
Me, "Harper, tell the truth. Did you take this bracelet?"
"Maybe"
Me, "Go back to the corner until you're ready to tell the truth"
A few minutes later...
"I'm ready to tell the truth"
Me, "Harper, did you take this bracelet?"
Harper, "Yeah"
And then I repeated the stealing lecture from a year and 1/2 ago with Lacy...against the law, against God's laws,  yada yada yada. Maybe I should make a DVD and just play it for when Haley does this??? At this point Harper's crying because she knows she did the wrong thing & she's going to have to go back to the store to make it right. We practiced "I took your bracelet and I'm sorry. I won't ever steal again" She was very nervous heading back to the store but she did it. A lady on our way out had overheard Harper's apology and said, "Wow, what a great lesson for her" Well, we're not going to let her keep it!!! I wasn't quite as mortified as I was when Lacy did it, I think I've gained some perspective. It's normal for that age AND I've read if they do it when they're little, they won't do it when they're teenagers. Harper was so relieved after her public apology, she literally skipped out of the store to the car.
